This room has a capacity for nine babies aged 4 months to 2 years old (approx according to individual needs). There will be one senior member of staff and 2 assistants within this room at all times when at full capacity. Our high ratio of staff to children ensures that your child receives plenty of individual attention, stimulation and care.
We understand that leaving a child at such a young age can be very difficult, but the Caterpillar Room is very much like a home from home with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Our staff are highly qualified and experienced in working with babies and will endeavour to maintain the routine that your baby enjoys at home.
Staff will complete a Daily Diary Record on our nursery App ‘Famly’ showing the number and times of sleeps, nappy changes and feeds along with the activities that your child enjoyed throughout the day; this will also include any milestones met in your child’s development. Upon collection, your child’s Key-worker will share basic information regarding your child’s day at nursery. Alongside the Daily Diary Record, staff will also complete a Learning Journal which can also be accessed via the Famly App, showing all activities and milestones your child has achieved, pictures, comments and next steps in development will be included. These records can be accessed by parents/carers and other family members at any time via the App. This Learning Journal will stay with your children throughout their time at Little Footsteps.
We keep in communication with parents through the Famly App as well as Face to Face, phone calls and parents evenings. The Famly App which allows us the quickly communicate with parent throughout their child’s day at nursery. We use it so send daily communications sheet about the child’s day and send important reminders to parents.
The Caterpillar Room has separate areas for sleeping, dining, changing and play, this ensuring the highest levels of hygiene at all times. Babies can move around the play area freely at all times, this includes the outside play area, which has been designed to allow babies to play securely and safely in the open environment. The ground covering consists of rubber matting allowing non-walking babies to roll around freely. There is a range of activities including ground level water, sand and messy play trays, trikes, tunnels and much more, all encouraging positive development, particularly in the large motor skills area. Our Baby garden is full covered to protect the babies from the rain, snow and sun but still allowing them to be outside in the fresh air.
