We regularly visit Lincoln House Care Home in Swanton Morley and they in turn visit Little Footsteps. The children and residents love the visits we have and gain positive experiences from them. The children are excited to tell the residents about what they have been doing at nursery, take them art work they have created, sing to them and help care for the care home’s pet rabbit. When the residents visit Little Footsteps they help the children serve snack, carry out art activities and read stories. Research shows that socialising children with the elderly has a positive effect on both parties emotional well-being.
To help our youngsters understand the local community around them, Little Footsteps will get them involved with community outings. We make regular visits to local parks and the library. Consent will be obtained from parents/carers prior to these visits.
At least once a week, Little Footsteps will go out and visit the park, one of our favourite places in the community. The children have a chance to explore the sites and nature in the park, as well as play on the slides and playground. We also visit the library weekly. At the library, children choose their own books to borrow and share. We also order topic boxes to help with educational learning.
